AI video editor for Linux

ArtDaddy is an open-source AI video editor with a real multi-track timeline, shipped for x86_64 Linux as an AppImage and a .deb. Editing, export and transcription run on your machine. It is GPL-3.0, and there is no cloud project store to lose access to.

Download AppImage Download .deb

Install

AppImage — make it executable, then run it:

chmod +x ArtDaddy-linux-x86_64.AppImage
./ArtDaddy-linux-x86_64.AppImage

Debian and Ubuntu — install the package:

sudo apt install ./ArtDaddy-linux-x86_64.deb

Built against Ubuntu 22.04 and Debian 12; other glibc-based distributions of similar vintage generally work.

Why it exists on Linux at all

Almost every AI video editor shipped in 2026 is macOS-only, and the browser-based ones need your footage uploaded to somebody else's machine to do anything. Neither is much use if you run Linux, or if you would simply rather your source files stayed where you put them.

ArtDaddy is one application with the same editor on all three platforms. Your media is referenced in place, export goes through a bundled ffmpeg, speech-to-text runs locally with Whisper, and the project file is a directory on your disk.

What's in it

A complete non-linear editor

Multi-track timeline, trimming, splitting, ripple delete, transitions, keyframed motion and scale, colour grading, captions and ffmpeg export. Ignore the AI entirely and it is still an editor.

Local MCP server

Claude Code, Codex, Copilot and Cursor can drive the project you already have open. See the MCP page for the tool surface.

One undo history

Whatever the agent does is an ordinary edit you can grab and change, and Ctrl+Z works across both of you.

Yours to keep

GPL-3.0. Build it from source and run it forever. Nothing can revoke it, and no account server stands between you and a project you already made.
