MCP server for video editing

ArtDaddy runs a local MCP server that exposes 55 video-editing tools, so Claude Code, Claude Desktop, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot or Cursor can cut, caption, grade and export a real multi-track timeline. The agent edits the project already open in front of you, not a copy, and you share one undo history with it.

What makes this different from a video-editing skill

Most ways of editing video with an agent end at a rendered file: the agent reads a transcript, decides some cuts, and hands you final.mp4. If it is nearly right, you have nowhere to go — there is no timeline to open and nothing to nudge.

ArtDaddy's tools operate on a live project. Every agent action lands as an ordinary edit you can select, drag and change, because the agent and the editing UI go through the same operations. The first eighty per cent arrives in one prompt; the last twenty per cent is yours to do by hand.

Two conventions worth knowing

Media is addressed by reference, never by file path. A local file becomes usable by being imported first, which returns a reference. That way a project stays resolvable after files move, and nothing you add is invisible to the library.

Time units follow the thing you name. A placed clip has a position on the timeline, so tools given a clip report and accept project frames. A raw library asset has none, so tools given a media reference use source seconds. The agent never has to do frame maths.

Works with

Claude Desktop · Claude Code · OpenAI Codex · GitHub Copilot · VS Code · Cursor — anything that speaks MCP. There is also an agent built into the app if you would rather not wire anything up.
